Tips to improve your English
How can you improve your English? We will answer you in three words: Practice Practice Practice (okay that is one word).
When it comes to learning a second, third or fourth language, the brain does so by means of association. It differs somewhat from the pathways formed when small children develop language skills. Your brain associates each new word or phrase with a word or phrase in your mother tongue. It creates a point of reference in order to remember the word learned. The breakthrough occurs when new pathways are formed – and this occurs only through practice.
Practically, what can you do if you do not have English speakers around you on a daily basis? Choose a topic you are passionate about. Read about it – in English. Listen to articles about it – in English. Perhaps even make notes or summaries about it – in English.
However, when you read, be sure to read out loud. Physically forming the words with your mouth and hearing the sound with your ears engages mores senses than if you merely read the words with your eyes. The more senses you engage, the more effective you will be in building a pathway.
